Qatar Energy Awarded Contracts for Oilfield Expansion

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The state-owned Qatar Energy announced that it has awarded multiple engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts towards further development of its Al Shaheen oilfield. The move is part of efforts to boost the country’s oil output by at least 100,000 barrels per day (bpd).

The projects are connected with the third phase of development of the country’s largest oilfield. It must be noted that the recently declared Project Ruya targets development of more than 550 barrels of oil, over a period of five years. The first oil output is expected by 2027. As many as 200 new wells will be drilled as part of the project.

Four EPC packages, worth around $6 billion has been awarded. The packages are considered as an important milestone in the development of the oil field.

The package for 9 wellhead platforms, valued at about $2.1 billion, was awarded to McDermott Middle East Inc. and Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan Offshore Engineering Co. The package for riser platform, valued at about $1.3 billion, was awarded to L&T Limited. The China Offshore Oil Engineering Co (COOEC) was awarded the contract for subsea pipelines and cables, which is valued at about $900 million. Also, a consortium of McDermott Middle East Inc. and Hyundai Heavy Industries won the award of $1.9 billion EPC package for Central Processing Platform.
