North America’s LNG Export Capacity to More Than Double by 2028

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has released a research predicting that between 2024 and 2028, North America's ability to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) will more than double. If planned activities at ongoing projects start up, the capacity is expected to reach 24.4 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2028, up from 11.4 Bcf/d in 2023.

It is anticipated that Mexico's LNG export capacity will increase by 0.8 Bcf/d, Canada's by 2.5 Bcf/d, and the US by 9.7 Bcf/d. Ten projects in all are presently being built across the three nations.

One of the two Floating LNG production units has been finished by the developers of the Fast Altamira LNG project in Mexico. According to the EIA report, they are now building two projects with a combined LNG export capacity of 0.6 Bcf/d, one on Mexico's east coast and the other on its west coast.

Three LNG export projects totaling 2.5 Bcf/d are presently being built in British Columbia, Canada. Furthermore, four LNG export projects totaling 4.1 Bcf/d in anticipated LNG export capacity have already been approved by the Canadian energy regulator.

In the United States, five LNG export projects are presently being built. These projects are expected to have a combined export capacity of 9.7 Bcf/d.
