NNPC Denied Allegations of Illegal Crude Oil Export

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has denied allegations that it exported 17.877 million barrels of crude oil without proper documentation during the period from 2016 to 2020.

Garba Deen Muhammad, spokesperson of NNPC said that the report alleging illegal crude oil exports was false and untrue. The report by an online publication had a reference to auditor general’s report, which noted that 32 oil marketing companies were indulged in exports without completing the required Nigeria export proceeds (NXP) forms. However, this does not imply that proceeds of the above crude oil sale were repatriated into the coffers of NNPC, he said.

The report had also alleged NNPC of appointing inspection agents in 2017, regardless of earlier directive by President Muhammadu Buhari. Muhammad against doing so. NNPC spokesperson clarified that NNPC does not appoint inspection agents as alleged and that it the sole responsibility of the federal ministry of finance. Furthermore, he urged the general public not to be misguided by the report and requested them to visit the relevant.auditor general’s official website to view the full content of the audit report.
