SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The federal government has formed a committee to look into the issues in connection with supply of crude oil to local refineries including Dangote refinery, disclosed Heineken Lokpobiri, the Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.
According to the Minister, the newly constituted committee will try to resolve the disagreements among various industry stakeholders. A detailed report will be submitted to the Minister by early next week. Based on the report, the government will decide upon further steps to be taken.
The Minister has appointed his permanent secretary as the head of the ad hoc committee. He reminded that all stakeholders are required to ensure that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) is strictly enforced, especially the obligations with regards to domestic crude oil supply, in order to guarantee a thriving oil sector.
The recent disagreement in connection with the regulation on domestic crude supply had sparked concerns among various industry stakeholders. The Dangote Refinery had alleged that the NUPRC was not upholding the PIA. The collaborative approach will help to resolve the issues at hand, thereby ensuring adequate supplies to support operations of local refineries, the Minister hoped.
