The finds were made on the Rhombi prospect, a business news statement stated. About ten kilometers north of the Troll field in the North Sea, an exploration well with a sidetrack has been drilled. In both well paths, petroleum was struck. This is the first discovery made in this field this year. Notably, the company reported that between 2018 and 2023, it made a total of 12 finds in this region of the North Sea.
The well was drilled by the Deepsea Atlantic semi-submersible rig.
Geir Sortveit, senior vice president for Exploration & Production West at Equinor in Norway, commented on the historic discovery, calling it an exciting find in one of the company's core regions with established oil and gas infrastructure. The business is currently investigating how to maximize profits while lowering emissions in order to develop the discovery.
