Chevron Resumed Natural Gas Supply from Tamar Offshore Field

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Chevron announced that it has resumed the supply of natural gas from the offshore Tamar gas field offshore Israel. The resumption follows almost a month of halt in operations, as per order by the Israeli government following tensions and violence in the region.

According to industry sources, the Tamar field is expected to reach full capacity within a few days. Nearly one-fifth of the gas from the field goes to neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Jordan.

The Tamar natural gas field along Israel's southern Mediterranean coast is within range of rocket fire. The country’s Energy Minister had ordered a state of emergency for the sector and had instructed the company to shut the field after Hamas’ attacks on the Israeli territory on Oct 7, 2023. The government instructed the company to resume operations on Nov 9, the company said.

The press release noted that the company has resumed supply to customers in Israel and in the region from the Tamar production platform.

Tamar gas fields, operated by the company accounts for almost 1% of its global output. The company holds 25% stake in Tamar.

During the period of shutdown in Tamar gas fields, Israel had relied on supplies from Leviathan field, operated by Chevron.
