SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Canadian Utilities Limited, majority-owned by ATCO Energy Systems, announced that it is involved in the development of a major natural gas pipeline project in Alberta. The pipeline will enable transportation of natural gas to a Dow petrochemicals plant and other industrial facilities.
The proposed CAD$2 billion Yellowhead Mainline project would comprise of approximately 200 kilometres of pipeline and related control and compression facilities that will run from Peers, Alberta, to Edmonton. The pipeline is expected to contribute to Alberta’s energy security. The project is expected to create thousands of temporary construction jobs as well as well-paid permanent jobs.
The project is expected to be built at a total investment of more than $2 billion. The expansion works will have capability to deliver nearly 1 billion cubic feet per day of incremental natural gas delivery capacity. The pipeline construction is expected to commence in 2026, subject to necessary regulatory and company approvals and will be on-stream by end-2027.
Wayne Stensby, Chief Operating Officer, ATCO Energy Systems noted that the company is excited to embark on this new landmark infrastructure project. The Yellowhead Mainline will play a crucial role in reinforcing Alberta's energy infrastructure, he added.
