Black Sea Natural Gas Discoveries Led to Boosted Turkish Output

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The Turkish natural gas production recorded significant surge by 113% in 2023, when compared with the prior year, to total 807.3 million cubic meters. This compares with production of 379.8 million cubic meters in 2022 and 394.4 million cubic meters in 2021.

The data compiled by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMEA) suggests that the increased natural gas discoveries along the Black Sea has contributed to the country’s boosted natural gas production during the year.

According to EMEA, a total of eight companies with domestic wholesale licenses have secured authorization to produce natural gas. These include Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), Thrace Basin Natural Gas Corporation Turkiye and Park Place Energy Limited. These natural gas production by these eight companies registered significant increase in 2023.

Among the various Turkish provinces, Zonguldak emerged as the leader, producing 337.8 million cubic meters of Black Sea gas, followed by Tekirdag with 243.3 million cubic meters and Kirklareli with 108.7 million cubic meters.

The Turkish natural gas production may see further boost with the commencement of full production from the Sakarya Gas Field, which is currently under development.
