SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The Chief of EQT Corp. predicted that artificial intelligence (AI) will drive future U.S. natural gas demand.
The use of natural gas in the United States has increased significantly over the last ten years, according to Toby Rice, CEO of EQT Corp. The increasing move by generators from coal has made natural gas the topmost power plant fuel. He said that the demand for American natural gas abroad has increased as a result of the newly operational export terminals along the Gulf Coast.

The American energy markets could see a sharp shock from AI. Only extremely powerful computing resources can be used to operate the data centers that train and use AI capabilities. One more significant power consumer mentioned is the tech sector. It must be noted that Microsoft had recently signed a long-term electricity purchase deal with a Pennsylvania nuclear plant.
The AI-related electricity demand is expected to range between 6 and 13 BBcfgd in the short term.
The retired coal facilities with power-related infrastructure could be switched to natural gas. The company expects demand to spike in Virginia- the hottest data center market in the U.S. Comparable opportunities are seen in southeastern regions of the nation as well, Rice added.
