In 1985, Jimmy Ray and others started Pipeline Valve Specialty in Houston Texas. The primary business model for Pipeline Valve Specialty was the remanufacturing of API6D and API6A Products and Field Service work.

In January of 1992, Pipeline Valve Specialty was sold and the company went public. Jimmy Ray remained as the general manager of the company.

The business model was still remanufacturing of API6D and API6A products and field service work. In February of 2001, Pipeline Valve Specialty was again sold. Jimmy Ray remained as the General Manager of the company. In February of 2002, Jimmy Ray hired several product engineers, and started development of API6D expanding and slab gate valves. Maverick International was one of the top clients of these valves, and Jerry Nelson became involved in this process to assist with design and marketing of the product.

Products were successfully designed, incorporating features that had an advantage in the market place and manufacturing and sales of this product began. In 2003, the same team developed API6D and API6A Ball Valves and began manufacturing. From 2004 until 2009, the team developed Plug Valves, Piston Check Valves, Butterfly, Valves, Wafer Check Valves, and Expanding Plug Valves.

In 2010, Jimmy and Jerry completed designs on Rising Stem Ball Valves.

In spring of 2011, Pipeline Valve Specialty was again sold and Jimmy Ray again remained as the General Manager. In the fall of 2012, Jimmy was advised that the new holding company was in negotiations to sell the company. That sale was completed in February of 2013.

In May of 2013, Jimmy Ray resigned to pursue other interests. On May 15, of 2013, having over 30 years of experience in the API6D and Pipeline Valve sales and repair business, as well as proven product design and manufacturing experience on products they had built since 2002, Jimmy Ray and Jerry Nelson, Jr. started Calvary Valve.
