About Company

California Energy & Power was established in 2005 for the purpose of developing and commercializing a new technology for vertical axis wind turbines. Since that time, we have developed an efficient aerospace-designed vertical wind turbine, the CAL-E-POWER-10K. We are building worldwide licensing and partnering platform from which the CAL-E-POWER 10K wind turbine, concentrator technologies, and related products can be sold. We are first focused on providing renewable energy to the largest users of fossil fuels in island states, initially in Hawaii. Our vertical wind turbine will provide an efficient and commercially attractive energy solution in a large variety of environments where distributed energy production is appropriate.  We are specializing in a niche for distributed electrical generation in an industry that is wide open – it includes areas with good wind resources that are unsuitable for large wind turbines, but have too large an energy demand for small wind turbines. However, this will not preclude us from deploying in other areas – including, for example, boosting power in transmission lines to compensate for line losses in large-scale wind farms and along high-voltage power lines.   By utilizing modular construction and lightweight manufacturing, our turbines will be designed to satisfy a wide range of power goals. The “Wind Concentrator” technology included with our turbines effectively increases the power produced by the turbine by 400%, as compared to the power produced by the turbine without the Wind Concentrator technology. With this configuration customers realize many benefits from this clean renewable energy source, including low maintenance costs, in a scalable, wildlife-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing turbine. Our U.S. patent application on our 10 kW design is currently pending. We are also working on designs for 500 watt, 1 KW and 5 KW systems, for development at a future time.

Vertical Axis Turbines for your Power Solutions

All wind turbines are NOT created equal. California Energy & Power has developed a unique solution for the wind industry that overcomes many of the challenges produced by both small and large turbines.  The Cali-ePower 12 kw VAWT  was rooted in the aerospace industry.  With a revolutionary design, our turbine is adaptable to a wide variety of wind environments.   Companies want a clean energy solution that will provide low-cost, efficient power that will maximize available space.

We provide a plug-n-play green energy solution for customers that need industrial grade power for their remote and campus/institutional micro-grids  but cannot or do not want to use large wind turbines. Our distributed energy solution plugs in directly where the power is used for both on-grid or off-grid applications.  Our turbines were designed to work optimally in distributed generation (DG) facilities of 3 - 1000 turbines, providing 36 kW - 12 MW of power. With their higher efficiency, wider power curve and higher power density, our distributed generation facilities provide a more constant and reliable source of green energy. We provide this wind energy in a way that is also quiet, bird- and bat-safe, and visually blends into the environment better than typical wind turbines.

Our CE&P Solution

The Cal-ePower 12 kW turbine technology has solved many of the problems faced by both vertical-axis turbines (VAWTs) and horizontal-axis turbines (HAWTs).  VAWTs have been known for their low efficiencies. One of the main reasons VAWTs are inefficient (<20%) is that the same wind that is driving the turbine is also impeding the returning blades. In other words, most VAWTs have to fight against their own design in order to produce power.  Another problem faced by VAWTs is poor start-up torque. Our concentrator technology solves both of these problems by providing a two-fold benefit for the turbine: It increases the wind speed and pressure on the drive-side of the blades, thus increasing torque and RPM, while blocking wind from impeding the returning blades.  HAWTs have problems due to their need for laminar (non-turbulent) airflow: To reach heights that have steady, strong less turbulent winds, HAWT manufacturers continue to build taller and taller machines (now over 300 ft at hub height). These huge sizes in turn are the cause of the other problems associated with HAWTs: Interference with RADAR, wildlife fatalities, noise production, obscuring the view, and human safety concerns associated with ice throw and blade loss. These problems have caused government and the public to slow or stop the development of dozens of wind power projects. What is needed now is a solution in wind that can provide substantial amounts of power (up to 12 MW) without causing the problems associated with large HAWT wind farms. California Energy & Power provides this solution. California Energy & Power has developed the Cal-ePower Cali 2.5 kW, 7 kW and 12 kW wind turbine solutions through extensive research and development and engineering efforts over the past 15 years.  The latest Cali series 2.5 kW. 7 kW and 12 kW is a fifth generation design. Early on during the technology development that lead to CE&P's core Intellectual Property (IP) of our patented concentrator technology, CE&P partnered with California Institute of Technology (Caltech) to validate prototype testing results in order to ensure our design and testing process was being held to the highest standards. California Energy & Power has thoroughly tested our designs using the latest in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) modeling, wind and water tunnel testing, and deployed our latest operational commercial prototype Cali 2kW in Q3 of 2017. Product development continued through 2019, and we plan to initiate limited commercial shipment in 2020.
