History

Clay County Electric Cooperative Corp. was organized in 1938. We were formed to provide reliable, low cost electric service to our members. We are headquartered in Corning with district offices in Pocahontas and Rector.  The cooperative currently has over 8,400 members, serves over 12,800 accounts, and operates approximately 2,700 miles of electrical distribution line.  Serving members in the counties: Clay, Greene, Randolph, Butler, MO, Ripley, MO, and Oregon, MO. There have been tremendous changes in both the quality of electric service and the way it is provided since those early days. Due to municipal growth and population shifts, the cooperative today makes use of the latest in technology to provide service to parts of most area towns and industrial parks.

Electric Service

When applying for electric service, a membership fee and a connect fee are required. The membership fee establishes you as a member/owner of Clay County Electric Cooperative Corporation. Once the request is made and fees have been paid, the Arkansas Public Service Commission allows up to 5 working days for service to be connected.  In addition, a security deposit may be charged. Our standard deposit can be paid in two equal installments; 1/2 payment upon application and the remaining balance on your first month's bill. After you have completed 12 consecutive months of payment without any late payments, the deposit will be refunded to you in the form of a credit on your bill.

What You Don't Know About Surge & Lightning Protection Will Shock You.

Lightning and power surges can strike at any moment and can destroy or cause expensive damage to your sensitive electronics and appliances. Being prepared for these unexpected surges and spikes can make a big difference in protecting your appliances and equipment.  Lightning is often the cause of power surges, but other factors such as birds, squirrels and trees interfering with power lines can cause a power surge. Construction work, demand fluctuations in your home, auto accidents involving utility poles, and even disturbances transmitted through telephone and cable lines can have the same effect.  Proper grounding can prevent most lightning damage. All ground leads such as electric, telephone, cable TV and satellite should be connected together outside the house and share the same ground rod(s).

Surge arresters provide additional protection. A comprehensive surge and lightning protection program can eliminate the risk of costly damage. Complete protection should have two stages. The first stage is a meter base surge protector. These units shield electronics and major appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, freezers and furnaces located inside the home. The second stage includes the installation of point-of-use devices for electronics such as TVS, DVDs, microwave ovens, computers or anything that uses a microprocessor.
