About Company

Photo Emission Tech., Inc. (PET), a California Corporation, started business in 1994. Prior to that the company was doing business as Photo Acoustic Tech., Inc. since 1983. Until recently the companys main business was manufacturing and marketing Optically Stimulated Electron Emission (OSEE) systems that are used for quantitatively checking surface cleanliness, monitoring, evaluating and optimizing cleaning processes.  In 2001, PET started designing, manufacturing and marketing Solar Simulation Systems and IV Measurement Systems. Solar Simulation Systems simulate the spectra of the sun in the earths atmosphere or in space. Applications include testing solar cells, environmental exposure testing and studying of photochemistry / photobiology effects.  PET was the first company to offer a fully integrated Cell Tester. Currently PET has wide range of Solar Simulator models that offer 30mm x 30mm area of illumination to 400mm x 400mm area of illumination. We also offer several models of IV systems that provide a current measuring capability from 1A to 20A. Our systems are the latest design and have the best user interface and control convenience on the market.  Our Cell Testers and Solar Simulation Systems meet Class A requirements of ASTM E927-2010, IEC60904-9 Edition 2.0 2007-10 and JIS C 8912-1998: amendment 1-2005 & Amendment 2-2011 requirements.  In 2006, the company moved its office to its current location. PET purchased a 4,500 Sq. Ft. building that currently houses the design, development, manufacturing and marketing & sales activities.  We believe in establishing a lifelong relationship with our customers by providing cell testing solutions and surface quality monitoring systems at an affordable cost, technical support and after sales support. Our staff is dedicated to serving its customers needs with a commitment to highest quality service. We welcome the opportunity to serve your needs.

Photo Emission Tech can provide a turn-key integrated Solar Simulator and I-V Measurement System for cell testing. The advantage of a cell tester is that all that needs to be done to test a cell is to load the cell, make electrical probes contact and press “Measure” icon on the I-V Measurement System software. The software will automatically open the Solar Simulator shutter, perform the test and close the shutter after the test is complete.  Any of the Solar Simulator models listed herein can be integrated with any of the I-V Measurement Systems. We can also provide custom cell platen, usually at no extra charge.

Solar Simulation Systems

Photo Emission Tech., Inc. designs, manufactures and markets Cell Testers and Solar Simulators with area of illumination ranging from 30mm x 30mm up to 400mm x 400mm. All Solar Simulators meet Class AAA requirements of ASTM E927-2010, IEC60904-9 Edition 2.0: 2007-10 and JIS C 8912-1998: amendment 1-2005 & Amendment 2-2011. The eight (8) models of solar simulators marketed by PET provide illumination areas of from 30mm x 30mm through 400mm x 400mm.  These solar simulator products simulate natural sun light in a variety of conditions, such as those in space or at sea level by providing the user the full spectrum light. PETs solar simulators are covered by two years factory warranty. There are two versions of each model available. One version has a Micro-Processor based controller which allows the user to digitally control the entire operations of the solar simulator through a controller. The other version of each model has an Electro-Mechanical Control panel.  These solar simulators can be used for checking light-sensitive devices such as solar (photovoltaic) cell performance. These solar simulators can also be used to test and classify solar cells prior to assembly into solar panels. The other applications of these solar simulators are photochemistry for testing exposure to sun light, photobiology research of animals, plants, cells studies, material degradation research, semiconductor testing, phototoxicity studies, and sun light exposure testing and of color fastness and material stability for textile, plastics and paints.

Since solar radiation reaching the earths surface varies significantly with atmospheric condition, location, time of the day, earth/sun distance, and solar activity, standard spectra have been developed to provide a basis for standardization of theoretical evaluation of the effects of solar radiation. The most widely used standard spectra are those published by The Committee Internationale dEclaraige (CIE), the world authority on radiometric and photometric nomenclature and standards.  The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) has published three spectra, AM0, AM1.5 Direct and AM 1.5 Global for a 37° tilted surface. The conditions for the AM 1.5 spectra were chosen by ASTM because they are representative of average conditions in the 48 contiguous states of the United States. In addition to the standards for different air masses, standards for Non-Uniformity, Temporal Instability of Irradiance, Total Irradiance within 300 Field of View, and how closely the systems radiation spectral distribution matches the suns radiation have been established by various organizations. In the USA, American Society for Test and Measurement (ASTM) has established such standards for Solar Simulators.

Low Concentration Photo-Voltaic (LCPV) & High Concentration Photo-Voltaic (HCPV) Cell Testing

Testing of LCPV Cells require Solar Simulators that have intensity concentration of 2-10 suns (2,000-10,000 w/m² or 200-1,000 mw/m²). Testing of HCPV Cells require Solar Simulators that have intensity concentration of ≥200 suns (≥200,000 w/m² or ≥20,000 mw/m²). These Solar Simulators deploy concentrating optics consisting of Fresnel lenses that concentrate Solar Simulator output to intensities that match the LCPV or HCPV Cell testing requirements. These LCPV or HCPV Solar Simulators are very useful for applications such as concentrated PV cell testing, accelerated photo-degradation studies and materials testing.

Surface Quality Monitors

PET also manufactures and markets non-destructive, non-contact surface contamination and thin film detection models and automated systems (Surface Quality Monitoring System) capable of detecting thin layer contamination, thin films and coating down to the Angstrom level. These systems represent a major breakthrough by providing, for the first time, a quantitative measure of surface cleanliness. As surface cleanliness verification instruments, in a part cleaning environment, these products are capable of validating the cleaning quality of all the part cleaning equipment available in the market.  Any of SQM model series is capable of verifying metal contamination; monitoring absence/presence of organic and/or inorganic on virtually on surfaces of all metals. They are, price/performance, the most sufficient product available for testing surface of metals for surface cleanliness. These systems operate in an ambient environment, require no sample preparation or deposit of any agents on the surface. In any parts cleaning environment where the quality and efficiency of part cleaning equipment for removal of surface contamination is highly desired, these systems provide a scientific solution by quantitatively measuring the surface cleanliness. The SQM series has the sensitivity and operational simplicity required to provide fast and cost effective surface evaluation for all metals.
