About Company

Clean Energy BC aims to provide cost-effective electricity through the efficient & environmentally responsible development of the Province’s energy resources.

  • CEBC (and its predecessor IPPBC) has been the voice of the Clean Energy industry and independent power for 25 years.
  • Our core principles are to gain and maintain social license for the sector by working in a transparent, trustworthy, and credible manner with all segments of BC’s communities.
  • With over 130 members, CEBC represents the vast majority of the clean energy operating and development companies in the province, as well as the suppliers, contractors and service providers to BC’s clean energy sector.
  • Our members include representatives from technologies such as small (run-of-river) hydro, wind, natural gas, biomass, and biogas and emerging technologies such as geothermal, solar, ocean/tidal and biofuels.
  • We are active in effective advocacy with all levels of government, BC Hydro, First Nations, and the public.
  • We promote a better understanding of the Clean Energy sector, its potential and its benefits.

Mission:

Our overarching priority at CEBC is to support BC’s transition to low-carbon energy through the development of effective climate policy and clean energy electrification. We will do this at a greater speed, lower financial risk and with less cost than any new alternative; thus providing the BC ratepayers, BC Hydro, and the BC government with affordable and best value clean energy.

Values:

Our core values are to gain and maintain social license for the sector by working in a transparent, trustworthy, and credible manner with all segments of BC’s communities.

Mandate:

The mandate of CEBC is to sustain and further develop a viable private sector power industry in British Columbia that serves the public interest by providing cost-effective electricity through the efficient and environmentally responsible development of the Province’s energy resources.

Vision:

Our vision is British Columbia, Western Canada and the Western US all having access to clean, reliable, cost effective energy produced by the private sector; a British Columbia leading the world in modelling a sustainable way of life.

The Association and the Industry:

The Clean Energy Association of British Columbia has been the voice of BC’s clean energy sector for the past 25 years and represents many different types of renewable and clean energy operating and development companies, as well as suppliers, contractors, and service providers to the clean energy sector within British Columbia.  The renewable energy sector has evolved from a handful of small development companies to today, 146 substantial development, operating, and supply chain companies delivering approximately 16% of the Province’s supply. The energy mix includes proven technologies such as small (run-of-river) hydro, wind, solar, natural gas, biomass, and biogas and emerging technologies such as geothermal, ocean/tidal, and biofuels.  Clean power is all around us. It charges our smartphones, it allows our kids to play soccer at night, it runs our businesses and industries, and it powers the transit system that gets us to work. British Columbia’s clean power sector responsibly, reliably, and affordably produces renewable energy for more than 1.5 million homes across British Columbia.

Clean power production attracts investment, creates jobs, and leaves a lasting positive legacy for First Nations and communities. Within the past year, the industry has attracted well over $2 billion in investment to the province while diversifying the economy, providing opportunities for First Nations, and keeping our air clean and skies clear. Clean power producers have invested $4 billion in capital expenditures for First Nations, creating 2,850 construction jobs and $800 million in total income to First Nations of the life of the Electricity Purchase Agreements.  Clean energy projects are an important part of the future of British Columbia. The Province has abundant clean energy resources, and the prudent, cost-effective development of these resources is fundamental to our future prosperity and sustainability as a society.
