EnerSea delivers the complete “gas supply to energy market” solution for clients with stranded gas resources or remote energy markets. To achieve this, EnerSea provides project development and execution services to integrate its proprietary VOTRANS™ CNG system with onshore/offshore gas supply and delivery terminals and power plants where required. There are over 100 trillion cubic feet of stranded gas resources and curtailed production globally, which currently provide no value to their asset owners. In addition, there is a worldwide demand for power projects using natural gas instead of liquid fuels to ensure long-term, low-cost fuel supplies, while reducing carbon emissions by more than 50%. Deployment of the industry leading VOTRANS™ CNG system enables monetization of these gas resources and stable fuel supply for power projects, where LNG or pipelines are not viable options due to economic, geopolitical or environmental issues. EnerSea’s marine gas transportation services are offered on a long-term tariff basis similar to third-party pipeline transportation agreements. This ensures clients are not burdened with the upfront capital expenditures related to the dedicated CNG ships or terminals.
Costeffective Technology
EnerSea’s VOTRANS™ system is the world’s first cost-effective marine gas transport service since the introduction of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The VOTRANS™ (and VOLANDS™ for land-based storage) CNG system employs the next generation applications of proven technologies that allow significantly more gas to be stored and efficiently handled compared to other CNG technologies. VOTRANS™ is the most versatile and efficient system available for the marine transportation of natural gas, which can deliver volumes of 25 to 1,000 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) per ship at significantly lower costs than other gas transportation alternatives. The VOTRANS™ system creates advantages not available in other CNG technologies by optimizing the relationships between storage pressure, temperature and the structural capabilities of commercially available, high-strength carbon steel pipe. Furthermore, VOTRANS™ employs a proven but innovative approach to gas handling that can accommodate a wide range of gas compositions and enables efficient transfer between transport and storage facilities by minimizing the “heel” gas left over. VOTRANS™ delivers the best steel-to-gas weight ratio for the most economic CNG marine gas delivery system available in the industry. EnerSea owns a suite of patents in the United States and around the world along with proprietary know-how relating to its gas storage and handling systems. EnerSea has completed extensive and rigorous engineering, testing and validation programs in partnership with large engineering, construction and oil & gas companies, to design and certify its CNG systems. It has obtained approval-in-principle from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Det Norske Veritas-GL (DNV), confirming that VOTRANS™ is ready for project execution. EnerSea’s patented technology, VOTRANS™ (Volume Optimized Transport and Storage), is the most cost-effective CNG solution in the marketplace.
Natural Gas Storage Solutions – VOLANDS
VOLANDS (Volume Optimized Land Storage) is EnerSea’s innovative, above-ground compressed natural gas land-based storage technology. Building on the gas containment and gas handling systems used in EnerSea’s marine transport systems, VOLANDS is a dynamic alternative that provides high deliverability, cyclic gas storage capabilities similar to salt dome caverns. VOLANDS can be integrated into a marine gas transport project, or can be provided as a stand-alone storage solution for clients in geologically constrained areas worldwide. The VOLANDS technology also provides value to a broad range of potential customers such as peaking power producers or gas distribution companies that have limited pipeline or natural storage alternatives. This new technology aligns the user’s daily injection and withdrawal rates to and from storage to match hourly load requirements and augments firm pipeline transportation capacity. In addition, EnerSea offers marine-based storage solutions on barges. These barges provide the same advantages as a VOLANDS solution but can be easily redeployed as the demand for storage changes.
The VOLANDS Advantage
- Supports marine gas delivery
- Scalable capacity from 20 MMscf to 600MMscf
- Injection and delivery between 5 MMscfd to 500 MMscfd
- Designed to cycle daily, weekly or monthly
- Ensures against gas supply interruptions, pressure reductions or upset conditions
- Manages peaks and valleys in demand
