Solar PV
Solar power modules, also known as photovoltaic (PV) modules, produce electricity from the sun. This clean, silent source of electricity is of great value to living and working spaces. Whidbey Sun & Wind designs, installs and maintains:
- Grid-tie PV systems supplement existing utility grid power. They are eligible to participate in net-metering, allowing you to sell-back excess production of electricity to the local utility.
- Off-grid PV systems supply power to a site that has no existing power source.
- Mobile PV units may be used for electricity on-the-go, such as RV and marine applications.
WSW designs, installs, and maintains pressurized anti-freeze closed loop and drain-back closed loop solar water heating systems. These system types are appropriate for the Northwest because they work well in colder climates.
Benefits
- Reduces dependency on non-renewable energy sources
- Adds value and equity to your home
- Purchase years of heating energy at todays rates
- Solar hot water system can offset 60 to 80% of heating needs for water (the average household spends approximately 20 to 30% of energy cost for domestic water heating)
Micro- Hydro
Micro-hydro systems use running water to turn a small turbine which generates electricity. Greater volume and speed of water allows for more electricity to be generated in this way. By measuring the head and flow at the site, one can determine power generating potential and what type of turbine is best to use. There are several factors which help determine if your site is appropriate for using water as a source of energy generation. Firstmost, it is necessary to have a river or stream on or near your property which runs year-round. Measuring the water head (pressure) and water flow rate will determine how much power is available and which type of turbine might be used. Besides the micro-hydro turbine, many of the other electrical components in a micro-hydro system are the same as those used in solar electric or wind power systems.
Benifits
- Reduces dependency on non-renewable energy sources
- Constant and reliable power generation
