Society of Petroleum Engineers222 Palisades Creek Drive , Richardson, Texas, United States
Since Nov, 2019
In 1957, the organization was officially founded as the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), a constituent society of AIME - American Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum Engineers. SPE became a separately incorporated organization in 1985.
Our history begins within the American Institute of Mining Engineers (AIME). AIME was founded in 1871 in Pennsylvania, USA, to advance the production of metals, minerals, and energy resources through the application of engineering. In 1913, a standing committee on oil and gas was created within AIME and proved to be the genesis of SPE. The Oil and Gas Committee of AIME soon evolved into the Petroleum Division of AIME as membership grew and as interest among the members was more clearly delineated among the mining, metallurgical, and petroleum specializations.
About the program
The role of the Business Management and Leadership Committee is to provide venues for professional growth in addition to technical development opportunities. It will identify gaps between the nontechnical skills members need and those currently provided by SPE, and make recommendations to fill these gaps. These recommendations will include ways to share information, stimulate ideas, and coordinate initiatives aimed at meeting the industry’s needs in developing member professional competencies in various areas of leadership.
