About Company

Founded in 1989 by Chris Lenda in Branford, Connecticut, Aegis is Connecticut’s oldest solar company. But over the years, we’ve kept in step with ever-changing customer needs in the fields of electronics and renewable energy – making us a trusted choice for a wide variety of solar solutions.  For 20 years, Aegis has worked closely with area contractors, architects, homeowners and businesses to expertly complete residential, institutional and commercial projects throughout the state.  We are also a proud sponsor of Connecticut’s Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program. By inviting apprentice electricians and solar installers to work alongside our seasoned journeymen, we help to ensure they’ll be properly trained in the fields of electrical construction and solar installation, while learning to always adhere to applicable building codes. We focus heavily on teaching superior workmanship skills and the need to be attentive to customer needs and expectations.

Solar Electric

Are you looking for a reliable, pollution-free way to power your home? Aegis designs both grid-tied and off-grid solar electric / photovoltaic (PV) systems specifically suited to your electrical needs and budget.  These systems can supplement the power you get from the utility company, or they can offer a cost-effective power supply to your entire home.

Both a state rebate and federal tax credit are currently available to help offset solar hot water system costs!

A solar domestic hot water system acts as a cost-effective pre-heater for your existing hot water system.  Aegis installs solar hot water drain back systems, systems that use flat plate collectors in a closed loop. Throughout our 20 years installing and maintaining systems, we’ve found these to be the most efficient option available in the Northeast, and they require the least amount of service. In fact, many of the systems installed in the 1980s are still operating today with their original parts!  Drain back solar hot water systems have controls in place to keep them functioning properly at all times. Whenever the pump shuts off, the antifreeze drains into a reservoir. This prevents overheating that can occur due to boiling antifreeze.

Solar Pool Heating

Swimming pools (and their accompanying furniture, fencing, and accessories) are a sizable investment. But if your pool is frequently too cold to comfortably swim in, you are not realizing the full benefit of your investment.  But there’s good news – solar pool heating is the most cost-effective of all solar applications, and it can effectively double the length of your swim season! Go solar and enjoy your pool every day from May through September, while eliminating or greatly reducing your heating costs.

Financial benefits of installing a commercial solar system include:

  • 30% federal tax credit on the cost of the system
  • Every kWh you generate reduces your billable kWhs provided by the electric company
  • With the 15-year ZREC contract, the utility pays an additional fee for every kWh you produce – so essentially you get paid twice for each kWh you generate
  • Reduce or eliminate your electric bill
  • Reduce your tax liability
  • Lower operating expenses
