About Company

A 56-panel solar power system with SolarWorld all-black solar panels, installed by American Solar in Saint Johns, Florida. This system produces about 1,770 kilowatt-hours during an average month, worth over $2,500 annually at current electric rates.

Why are you still wasting money on utility electricity?

We believe solar panels are a better way to produce electricity than sending millions of tons of carbon, sulfur and other pollutants into the atmosphere. And the best time to start building a clean energy future for our children—and our children’s children—is right now. If you feel the same way, we would love to show you how you easy it is to own a home solar power system today, with:

  • You can install solar power with zero down financing that’s designed so electric bill savings cover all or most of the monthly payment for your system. Once your system is paid for, use your electricity savings for things like kids’ college tuition or vacations.
  • Solar electricity production is very predictable, so we put your system’s estimated average monthly and yearly electricity production in writing. And the solar panel manufacturer guarantees the minimum performance of your panels for 25 years.
  • Studies show that homes with solar power can sell more than twice as fast as similar homes without solar, and sell for more because of the much lower electric bills. Don’t keep wasting money on utility electricity. Invest those dollars in your home.

Why Choose American Solar as Your Solar Contractor?

Selling, installing and servicing solar energy systems is all we do. It’s all we’ve done for the last 30 years and we have several thousand satisfied customers. Here are three facts about American Solar that we believe are important.

  • We’ve been in business in Northeast Florida since 1986, with thousands of satisfied customers in Duval, Nassau, Saint Johns and Clay Counties. Our team has several decades of solar industry experience, ensuring that your solar energy system will be installed correctly. Our founder and president has served as a subject matter expert for the Florida solar contractor licensing exam.
  • Your system will be custom designed for your needs, and to maximize the attractiveness of your home. You will get best-in-class solar panels and microinverter technology and receive a lifetime roof attachment warranty that is the best in the industry. All energy production estimates will be in writing. And if a competitor offers you a better price for the same equipment, we’ll match it.
  • Many solar company websites have “How Much it Costs” pages that don’t actually tell you how much a solar power system costs! It’s infuriating. We don’t play the “hide the price” game. Yes, every system is different. But that doesn’t mean we can’t give you examples of typical system prices. So we do. And we make the information easy to understand.

Our Experience

American Solar has an extraordinary depth of solar technology knowledge and experience, dating back to the 1970s and 80s. Our deep experience and knowledge provide our customers with the peace of mind that their solar power systems, water heating systems and pool heating systems will be reliable and installed to meet or exceed industry standards.

How Solar Power Works

Solar power panels contain the same material—silicon—used in computer chips. Silicon wafers with special electrical characteristics are assembled in layers, into photovoltaic cells that produce electric current when exposed to sunlight.  Solar panels produce direct current. The lights, appliances and electronics in your home use alternating current. So a device called an inverter turns the direct current into alternating current before it is fed into your electric service panel. A solar power system can have either a single central inverter or several small microinverters, with one installed behind each solar panel on your roof.  Direct current from the solar panels is turned into alternating current by the inverter or microinverters. The alternating current power flows into your electric service panel.  Whenever your home’s power consumption is less than the amount of electricity your solar power system is producing at that instant, the excess electricity is fed through a special two-way meter back to the utility’s electric power grid. A special utility billing program called net metering credits you for this excess solar electricity production.

Solar Pool Heating

A solar pool heater can double your comfortable swim season in a warm pool. If you’re like most Florida pool owners, you probably swim from around mid-May to mid-September. That’s only four months of swimming. For the other eight months, your pool is too cold for comfort even with Florida’s great climate. Wouldn’t it be great if you and your family could be outdoors enjoying a warm pool for nine to ten months every year?
