Our Process

• The first step is a brief phone call where we gather some information and schedule a free solar site evaluation. We confirm your address, collect some information about your home and determine your annual electricity usage. (link to how to determine your annual electricity usage doc?) • During our site visit, we will measure your home’s roof, determine its pitch and orientation, and assess if the roof is impacted by shading. In your home, we evaluate your electric service panel, note any generator equipment if present.  For ground mounted solar arrays, we assess site conditions, the distance from array location to your home, and measure shading if present.
• The site assessment is our opportunity to meet face to face and educate you about how solar works. We will present a preliminary proposal based on the information gathered during our introductory call. This preliminary proposal serves as a framework for our conversation. We will explain how solar works, show you different solar panels, discuss incentives, and present system pricing.  We typically present a few different system options: system size and solar panel choice will impact the final system price. We illustrate the difference between different solar panel manufacturers and the panels they offer. We show how system size impacts the installed cost.  Throughout this process we welcome your questions and feedback. Our goal is to get you the information you need to make an informed decision. We are happy to revise your proposal so that we can present a solution that meets your budget and renewable energy goals.
• Battery Storage: Advances in battery technology allow solar customers to consider the installation of batteries with their solar system to provide back-up power during outages. Sophisticated storage systems allow for greater self-consumption of solar electricity, thus reducing reliance on the grid.  Heat Pumps: Many solar electric customers also consider the installation of heat pumps for space heating. Heat pumps allow you to leverage your investment in a solar electric system to offset the expense of fossil fuels for space heating. Maine Solar Solutions installs and services Mitsubishi heat pumps. We are happy to assess your home for heat pumps and bundle the installation of heat pumps and solar together.
• Based on the information gathered during the site assessment, your questions and your feedback we are happy to revise your system proposal. We can present different system sizes, consider different panel options and show you financing options.
• If you choose to have Maine Solar install your solar electric system, we will prepare an installation contract. We manage all aspects of the system installation including permitting, CMP paperwork, and registering your system.  Our qualified and experienced installation team will get the job done quickly and professionally, ensuring a safe and code-compliant installation. After installation, we will activate your system and set up your monitoring software. We warranty our installations for five years and will be there to assist you with any questions you may have.
