Since May, 2019
Pear Energy works with select financial partners and leading installers to develop and fund energy efficiency and renewable energy projects across the country. With our partners in commercial energy efficiency retrofits, Pear Energy invests in a growing portfolio of commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) projects around the U.S. Together with our solar partners, Pear Energy funds power purchase agreements (PPAs) that provide photovoltaic systems with no installation costs, low long term electricity rates, and all maintenance included. Currently under development is 1.4 MW of solar arrays across 16 churches and schools in Washington DC, a 547 kW solar system in Desert Hot Springs, CA, and a residential PPA program in Washington DC. LED lighting is one of the fastest developing and most energy-efficient lighting technologies. Along with our partners, Pear Energy finances retrofits of parking lots and garages using an innovative financial model that allows installation and savings to clients with no upfront costs.
Mission
The challenge for us in the U.S. to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions to control climate change is enormous. From our research, consulting, and direct project work, we know that it is achievable. It will require a serious, steady commitment to the decisions we make in managing the use of energy in our transportation systems, industrial activities, and our buildings. Energy consumption in buildings constitutes 40 percent of all usage, and thereby 40 percent of all emissions generated by the U.S. economy. The aim of Pear Energy has been precisely to create a viable, socially committed, green enterprise, that is capable of playing a significant role in fighting climate change and building a green economy.
SOLAR INSTALLATION
With our solar partners, Pear Energy funds power purchase agreements (PPAs) that provide photovoltaic systems with no installation costs, low long-term electricity rates, and all maintenance included. Currently under development is 1.4 MW of solar arrays across 16 churches and schools in Washington DC, a 547 kW solar system in Desert Hot Springs, CA, and a residential PPA program in Washington DC.
Two Bunch Palms Resort
Pear Energy, clean energy provider for homes and businesses nationwide, and Two Bunch Palms Spa Resort, located outside of Palm Springs, have partnered to create the first carbon-neutral wellness resort in North America. Under the agreement, Pear Energy will finance and construct a 547-kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) installation for the resort. Upon completion, the installation will provide enough renewable energy to offset 100% of Two Bunch Palms’ electric power consumption. The system will be owned by Pear Energy, and Two Bunch Palms will purchase the solar electricity produced by the system, under a 21 year power purchase agreement (PPA).
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Pear Energy has partnered with Urban Ingenuity, a Washington DC based company that works to develop, finance, and own next-generation clean energy and infrastructure assets. Their focus is to make these assets as resource efficient, information enabled, and climate resilient as possible in order to build healthy equitable and thriving communities. Urban Ingenuity develops targeted financing programs that align the interest of owners and investors to simultaneously solve three challenges - low customer demand, complex project origination, and inefficient and expensive capital - making projects easier to build, own, and operate. In particular, Urban Ingenuity operates a Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (cPACE) product. PACE financing enables building owners to install energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades with 100% financing, i.e. no upfront cost. A voluntary tax assessment is placed on the property, serving as the means of repaying the cost of the upgrades.
LED LIGHTING
Pear Energy works with NextGen Partners to support businesses in transitioning to LED lighting solutions. Lighting accounts for 25-50% of annual electric costs for many businesses. Advances in LED technology enable businesses to save money by significantly reducing the amount of energy required to operate their lighting program. The savings can be used to finance an LED lighting program.
