About Company

Tri-State Biodiesel is a social enterprise dedicated to creating a more just and sustainable world by providing a carbon neutral alternative to petroleum diesel. Founded by environmentalists and entrepreneurs, Tri-State Biodiesel provides clean, renewable Biodiesel fuel made from recycled cooking oil to the entire Tri-State region including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Find Out How You Can Use Biodiesel Today Biodiesel fuel can be used in any #2 boiler, diesel car or truck, diesel generator or construction equipment. None of these uses require any modifications to your equipment or vehicle. Our fuel often costs less than diesel, is locally produced, and has drastically reduced emissions.

Mission Statement

  • Tri-State Biodiesel, LLC is a New York City based subsidiary of The Sustainable Biodiesel Company LLC.

  • The Sustainable Biodiesel Company (TSB) is a national company which is focused on the development and implementation of urban-based biodiesel projects utilizing non-food crop biodiesel feedstocks such as Used Cooking Oil, Jatropha Oil and Algae Oil.

  • Founded by life-long biodiesel activist Brent Baker, TSB believes that the use of sustainably-produced biodiesel in combination with demand reduction measures such as mass-transit and transportation alternatives and in concert with technological advances such as diesel hybrids and light rail systems, can create an America that is both energy independent and sustainable.

  • TSB also believes that all used cooking oil generated by U.S. restaurants should be captured and processed into biodiesel as part of this national sustainability strategy.

  • The Sustainable Biodiesel Company and its affiliates have operations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and California. The company continues to seek dedicated local developers in urban areas through out the United States to work with in implementing successful biodiesel projects.

  • This year, TSB was the proud recipient of the Social Venture Network’s (SVN) 2009 Innovation Award for CEO Brent Baker’s work in maintaining “triple bottom line” principals at the company.

Biodiesel

Biodiesel runs in any conventional diesel engine. No engine modifications are necessary to use biodiesel. Biodiesel dramatically reduces harmful emissions that cause environmental problems such as global warming, acid rain and smog. Biodiesel reduces CO2 emissions by over 78% compared to petroleum diesel. Even blended with petroleum diesel, biodiesel significantly reduces emissions. Furthermore, the plants used to make biodiesel feedstock absorb more CO2 as they grow than the biodiesel produces when it is burned. This means that in the lifecycle of biodiesel production and use no new carbon byproducts are created. See emission reduction chart below for additional emission reduction data.

We at Tri-State Biodiesel are committed to increasing the availability and usage of our locally produced, clean burning biodiesel fuel. By taking action to ensure that this renewable fuel is available throughout NYC, you can help ensure a sustainable future for all of us.  The Gulf oil catastrophe throws into sharp relief the true cost of our country’s oil addiction. No longer can industry apologists understate the risks and inevitable damage caused by oil exploration and exploitation. Safety regulations can only go so far; there will always be dangers associated with drilling at inaccessible locations. It is clear that the only answer is to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.  The chart below shows that the cumulative “hidden” cost of importing Persian Gulf oil comes out to a staggering $930 billion dollars a year, making the “real” cost of refined Persian Gulf oil the approximate equivalent of paying $27.07/gallon. By switching to usage of locally produced biodiesel fuel instead, these costs can be avoided, and we can slowly wean ourselves from the dinosaur of petroleum.
