History

Great Lakes Petroleums humble beginning started out as a one man, one truck operation in November of 1976. Tom Arcoria purchased his first fuel truck and began delivering heating oil to homes for SOHIO (Standard of Ohio) in Cleveland and Tom Arcoria, Inc. was founded.  In 1978 Tom purchased his second fuel truck and hired the first two drivers, Dale Gant and Bill Hemlick. Both are still with Great Lakes Petroleum today.

By the mid-80s home heating had converted primarily to natural gas and BP had bought out SOHIO. At the time Tom Arcoria had eight employees working with him and had accumulated eight trucks. They soon began delivering fuel on consignment for BP, entering into the commercial market, delivering approximately 6 million gallons a year.

21ST CENTURY

Toms youngest son, Anthony Arcoria, joined the company in 2002 as a driver, learning all he could about the business. Eager to get out and sell, Anthony quickly set out to increase sales and our service area even more. Great Lakes purchased its first transport truck that same year.  In 2003, Anthony hired two salesmen, Rose Martell and Dan Grummit. This helped expand our service area into Pennsylvania and West Virginia and even further throughout Ohio. And our fuel sales had grown to over 20 million gallons a year.

SAFE FUEL DELIVERY

We take pride in preserving the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations top safety performance level.  Our drivers participate in comprehensive ongoing driver safety and transportation training. Great Lakes is honored to receive the Energi Excellence in Risk Management award for the second consecutive year.

SMART TANK MONITORING

In November 2004, we partnered with SMARTLogix and introduced Smart Tank wireless tank monitoring technology to Great Lakes Petroleum.

Wholesale Fuel Delivery

Wholesale Fuel Delivery Great Lakes Petroleums well maintained Transport fleet provides wholesale fuel delivery service to trucking, construction and utlity companies, as well as retail fueling stations, railroads and municipalities.  We have the competitive edge on supply and pricing by offering our own product as well as products from multiple suppliers from which we have established relationships.

Coast Guard Approved Vessel Fueling

Smart Tank Great Lakes Petroleum has earned United States Coast Guard approval to transfer fuel from our trucks to your vessels.

Above Ground Fuel Storage Tanks

Our above ground fuel storage tanks come in many sizes and shapes from our 500 gallon fuel tank up to our 60,000 gallon fuel tank. Great Lakes Petroleum is also an expert in tank placement and private fueling stations.Each fuel storage tank is outfitted with our Smart Tank Monitoring System to manage your fuel inventory providing you with maximum efficiency and you never run out of fuel!  We utilize both our tank wagon fleet carrying up to 4,500 gallons and our large transport fleet that can haul up to 8,800 gallons of fuel. No load is too small or too large! We provide service to all!
