Our Story
Our company began in 1946 when Wests grandfather, Ben Chiles, returned to Pulaski, Tennessee after World War II and purchased a small Texaco service station. Looking back, its clear today that the service station was where our 67-year tradition of commitment and service to our customers was born and nurtured. Ben was very successful and a sought-after dealer by companies supplying motor fuel and lubricants. Over the years, the business expanded, and Ben moved to larger facilities. Founder Ben Chiles with his grandson, West, taken in front of the original Texaco station. West was two years old.On June 1, 1971, Ben and oldest son, Bruce, purchased a small Phillips 66 wholesale distributorship (oil marketer) and formed Chiles Oil. Bruce had received his Masters Degree in Business Administration at Emory University in 1969 and worked with Olin Corporations Aluminum Division in Hannibal, Ohio, for 18 months before joining the family business. For a number of years, Chiles supplied service station dealers, Mom & Pop grocery stores, local commercial businesses, and industry and farm accounts. In 1975, Chiles purchased Carlton Oil Company in Columbia, TN; in 1986, Chiles purchased Gordon Oil Company; and in 1989, Arnold Oil Company was added to the Chiles business family. Chiles Oil had tremendous growth and was a leader in the oil industry in lower middle Tennessee. On October 1, 1985, Chiles purchased its first convenience store and formed Chiles Enterprises, later adding another convenience store and full service station in 1987. In 1989, Chiles Oil joined Pacific Pride, a fleet fueling franchise supplying commercial accounts 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Chiles Oil was one of the few franchisees east of the Mississippi and the first in the southeast U.S. West Chiles knew he wanted to carry on the family legacy, and in 1990 received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Distribution from Western Michigan University. In the early 1990s, West took the company in another direction, serving commercial and industrial accounts with propane. In the late 1990s, West expanded the propane division to serving residential customers, forming Chiles Propane, LLC. The companys base is providing a secure propane supply year-round for residential and commercial users without the usual irritation of price gouging and delayed or canceled deliveries during cold winter months or adverse weather conditions. In 2009, Chiles again expanded, and now also installs and services heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). In 2012, Chiles became a Carrier Dealer, which allows customers the ability to one-stop shop for all of their summer and winter comfort needs. Whether its HVAC installation and repairs, propane sales and installations, fireplace logs, or on-demand water heaters, Chiles can meet your familys and your business comfort needs all year long. While growing up, West worked at his grandfathers service station or at the plant with his parents after school. He loved to work at the service station and would run out to greet customers as they pulled up for gas. As West says, those days were the days of full service at gas stations, when “Filler up” meant just that. West knew to take care of not only the gas, but also the tires, water, oil, windshield, and air filter. For the customers safety and the vehicles reliability, those were the basics and were standard with every fill-up. "Were old fashioned," West says today. "At Chiles Propane Heating and Cooling, we believe customers appreciate full service and are happy to be unexpectedly surprised when they receive it. We serve our customers needs just like my Grandfather Ben did when he took care of your fathers or grandfathers 1965 Chevy truck or helped you squeeze a few more miles out of the family car."
Your propane system, central heat and air, and appliances are no different. Maybe its time for an old-fashioned full-service inspection of the little things. When you buy from Chiles Propane Heating and Cooling your comfort is guaranteed, because we still believe in full service, every time. Today, Chiles Propane Heating and Cooling is a dedicated energy marketer committed to building trusting relationships with residential customers in southern middle Tennessee and industrial customers throughout the southeast U.S., empowering customers with centralized accessibility to gas sales, installation, HVAC needs, repair and emergency services. Gas Check Safety Inspection
GAS Check® is an inspection program developed by the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) and the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), and funded by PERC that provides guidelines to technicians on how to perform two different types of residential safety inspections: Gas System Check can be completed on the gas delivery system, including the containers, regulators and appurtenances; and a Gas Appliance System Check includes all of the items of a "Gas Systems Check" as well as on all propane-burning appliances. GAS Check® also educates homeowners on the safe use of propane and the maintenance of propane appliances.
Propane Autogas
Propane Autogas is a viable, cost-effective alternative fuel for all types of vehicles, including cars, trucks and vans. Propane (liquefied petroleum gas) is referred to as Autogas when used as a motor fuel. You can convert your fleet to Propane Autogas to save substantially on your fuel bills, one of the largest costs of any commercial business with vehicles on the road. In fact, thousands of school buses, taxi fleets and commercial van fleets are already economically fueled by Autogas, saving on average $1.25 per gallon compared with regular unleaded gasoline. Conversion costs are much less expensive, compared with other alternative fuels. Plus, using Propane Autogas substantially reduces harmful emissions and is almost entirely American-made.
