About Company

While formulations have changed to keep up with todays technology, Archers obsession with quality hasnt. Archers broad line of lubricant products are still manufactured with superior base oil stocks and the latest additive technology to ensure the highest quality, best performing lubricant products.  Some oil companies would have you believe that Archers obsession with quality is unnecessary. But Archers customers see the difference in longer drain intervals, lower maintenance costs, increased fuel efficiency and less wear in their valuable equipment. Archer users have learned that premium products ensure premium performance and ultimately better value.

History

Back in the twenties, both commercial and private aviation were in their infancy. Little was known about airplanes, their power plants and their lubrication problems. As the airplane became more common for commercial use, it became evident that every precaution must be taken to improve its safety record if the industry was to make a permanent place for itself in the transportation world. Thorough investigation of accidents led to the knowledge that a large percentage of accidents were caused from engine failures brought on by faulty lubrication.

A new system of quality control of aircraft oils came into effect. Only oils of proven high quality could be used. Oils that were so highly refined that all of the non-lubricating materials were removed and the finished product had that extra stamina built into it for aviation use. Archer developed this high-quality oil, and thus this is what launched Archers tradition of superior quality.   When Archer introduced this tougher oil to the agricultural and heavy duty equipment markets, operators soon discovered that this oil – built to withstand the extra heat and strain of an aircraft engine – naturally lasted longer and protected better than any of the conventional oils. That quality was something they wanted in their equipment – that quality was what they wanted to tell their neighbors about.

oil-analysis

In an internal combustion engine, the engine oil is contained in the sump, or crankcase. The oil pump draws the oil through a screen, which strains out large foreign particles, then forces it through a filter, which removes smaller contaminants. The filtered oil then circulates through passages drilled in the engine block to bearings, the valve mechanism, and to the pistons and cylinder walls before returning to the sump. A bypass valve ensures that oil will still reach engine parts if the filter becomes clogged. In some older engines, lubrication may be accomplished in part by splashing caused by rotation of the crankshaft in the oil. During its circulation through the engine, the oil serves to lubricate parts, keep the engine free of rust and deposits, seal the piston rings and valves against leakage of combustion gases, and cool hot internal surfaces. Additives in the oil greatly enhance its ability to prevent excessive wear and deposit buildup, and they increase its resistance to oxidation and deterioration at high temperatures.
