Pella Co-Op Electric Association 2615 Washington St, Pella, Iowa, United States
Since Jan, 2017
Pella Cooperative Electric Association has been serving its more than 3000 members for over 80 years. The service territory spans the counties of Jasper, Mahaska, Marion, Poweshiek and Warren
In 1935, Pella Cooperative Electric and electric co-ops across the nation were constructed with lines, poles and the foolhardy notion that we all prosper by helping each other.
Cooperatives like ours operate differently than most businesses. We are consumer-owned businesses, which means that you and your neighbors actually own your electric utility. You're a member, not a customer. And as your cooperative, we strive to deliver safe, affordable and reliable electricity.
Pella Cooperative Electric provides electricity to more than 3,000 members on 634 miles of line across five counties. Cooperatives have their roots in their local communities and the employees at Pella Cooperative Electric are no different. We are proud to live in the communities we serve, to support our hometown businesses and share the values of rural Iowa. On May 11, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an Executive Order setting up the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) and appropriated $100 million for rural electrification funds. In September, 1936, Pella Cooperative Electric received a $70,000 loan through the REA to finance the construction of the cooperative's first 65 miles of electric line. The first organizational meeting was held in early October, and Pella Cooperative Electric was officially organized on Oct. 19, 1936. By 1939, PCEA had 124 members.
Energy Efficiency
Pella Cooperative Electric's goal is to educate its members in many different areas. Showing and encouraging members to use energy more efficiently is the first step toward saving on the monthly electric bill. Pella Cooperative Electric offers an array of informational resources such as rebate incentive programs, renewable energy programs, energy audits, energy conservation, appliance recycling and more. Follow the links for more detailed information on each.
Community
Electric cooperatives have a long standing commitment to be active within the communities they serve. Pella Cooperative Electric Association demonstrates these principles every day by working hard for our members and the surrounding communities.
Legislative
Electric cooperatives were born in politics - and in politics we remain. Legislation in the United States often affects the Cooperative and our members, causing us to continually be involved and advocate on your behalf and right alongside you. We strive to maintain good relationships with Iowa legislators and discuss issues with them that impact you, our member. We always advocate for safe, affordable, and reliable electricity delivered in an environmentally responsible manner.
