Northwest Territories Power Corporation4 Capital Drive , Hay River, Northwest Territories, Canada
Since Nov, 2016
The size and geography of the territory is hard to wrap your head around. NTPC serves a population of 43,000 people spread across 33 communities and 1.1 million square kilometres. A handful of communities have year-round road access while most others depend on a combination of ice-roads and air travel. Because of this, many of our communities are still dependent on diesel generators as a primary power source. Meanwhile, the majority of homes have internet access and many residents are as reliant on their mobile devices as any southern Canadian.
Mission
NTPC’s mission is to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in a safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally sound manner; striving to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. NTPC exists to provide value to its shareholder and customers through the efforts of a highly dedicated, skilled, and productive workforce.
Vision
Our vision is to be the provider of choice to our customers, a valuable partner to industry and Aboriginal groups in the NWT, as well as a performance leader in the utility industry. As a performance leader, NTPC will develop a highly innovative team that achieves operational excellence, provides industry leading customer satisfaction and delivers superior financial performance by demonstrating fiscal responsibility, and pursuing growth opportunities. NTPC will also work with stakeholders to support development of the tremendous resource potential of the NWT in a sustainable and responsible manner creating long term benefits for its customers and residents alike.
Values
While achieving the Corporation’s Vision and Mission, NTPC will uphold its core values of:
- Putting the safety of our employees, contractors and the general public first
- Protecting the environment and working towards a sustainable existence
- Complying with all applicable legislation and regulations
NTPC will act ethically and honestly; treating employees, customers and all other stakeholders with Respect, Integrity and Professionalism
Safety
Safety is Job One!
Electricity is a necessity. It powers everything from our morning coffee to the XBox games that keep children entertained. But electricity can be dangerous. It travels at speeds exceeding 134,000 miles per hour and exposure to just a few amps for a nanosecond can stop the human heart.
At NTPC, safety is job one. There just isn’t any room for compromise, and we want to keep it that way to protect our employees, contractors and the public. We are participants in the COR Safety program, and have been awarded our Certificate of Recognition.
We’ve won national awards for safety on the job. So, we’d like to share some safety information to keep you and your family safe too!
