The Lower Colorado River Authority, now celebrating its 80th anniversary, enhances the quality of lives of Texans through water stewardship, energy and community service. LCRA serves customers and communities throughout Texas by managing the lower Colorado River; generating, delivering and transmitting electric power; ensuring a clean, reliable water supply; and offering access to nature at more than 40 parks, recreation areas and river access sites along the Texas Colorado River, from the Hill Country to the Gulf Coast. LCRA manages six dams that form the Highland Lakes and help protect downstream communities from floods. LCRA generates electricity, and builds and maintains a transmission system that helps move power across Texas. LCRA's portfolio includes power from coal, gas, hydro and wind. LCRA works with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to develop and refine market guidelines for public power entities. LCRA – a nonprofit public service agency created by the Texas Legislature – cannot levy taxes and does not receive state appropriations.
LCRA provides a multitude of vital services to Texans, including delivering electricity, managing the water supply and environment of the lower Colorado River basin, providing public recreation areas, and supporting community development.
LCRA is laser-focused on providing its customers with unparalleled customer service as it provides reliable, cost-effective services to people throughout the state.
