Demand EnergyPO Box 685, Liberty Lake, Washington, United States
Since Nov, 2016
Founded in 2008 and led by a team of seasoned entrepreneurs from the telecom, utility and renewable energy industries, Demand Energy has architected the most comprehensive platform for integrating big-data analytics with energy storage at the edge of the utility grid.
Our cloud-based, battery agnostic solution is running distributed energystorage systems today that are producing economic value on two continents and are transforming how energy is acquired and utilized in commercial and industrial buildings.
Our systems are boosting the value of renewables by firming and time shifting the power so that it can be dispatched when it is most economically valuable, while at the same time improving grid stability. We believe the deployment of distributed generation and intelligent energy storage systems on either side of the customer meter will make the smart grid smarter, more resilient and cost effective for everyone.
Our Vision
Electricity for a secure future and more responsive grid.
Electricity when and where you need it.
Electricity on demand.
The answer to the world's looming energy emergency is in the hands of creative solution innovators. At Demand Energy, we are developing technologies to optimize underutilized electricity generation sources and improve renewable integration strategies.
By maximizing existing resources and overcoming the challenges that impact renewable generation, we are helping businesses, utilities and communities improve reliablity and secure power supplies for decades to come.
In our vision, next generation energy storage is highly decentralized and intellegently controlled. It's scalable for city and individual building applications. Modular as stations for electric vehicle charging. In the very near future, residence sized systems will help home owners save on electricity costs. Energy storage is durable for long life and low maintenance. It is cost effective, safe and dependable. Green and offers huge savings in extended equipment life for exisiting grid systems.
We can't change the way electiricity is generated and distributed today. But we can change the way it is utilized, consumed, and stored.
We want to change the way you think about electricity, and the way you control it.
Demand Energy's Joule.System™ is a turn-key solution that provides the intelligence, big data analytics and network architecture required to maximize the benefits of distributed energy storage. As a cloud-based platform, Joule.System centralizes and tightly integrates all of the functions needed to aggregate and manage distributed energy storage resources independently of their location, capacity or ownership.
Joule.System goes well beyond the basic requirements of managing an AC/DC and DC/AC power conversion system and rechargeable batteries by integrating support for building management systems, energy markets, metering systems, and other energy assets under Demand Energy's next-generation Grid.DNA Distributed Network Architecture. Sophisticated analytics and automated decision-making are applied in real-time to the large-scale data store that continuously tracks energy demand, system status and market information to minimize costs without compromising power quality or reliability.
The browser-based graphical user interface provides an intuitive and convenient way for users to configure the system and monitor its operation. Behind the user interface is a powerful architecture that integrates the data store with device control, back office systems, business logic and security services utilizing a distributed messaging system. The result is an unprecedented degree of control over energy that is capable of adapting to future advances in battery chemistries, power conversion technologies and big data analytics.
The Joule.System continuously reacts to energy market rate structures, storing energy when time-of-use rates are low, and generating electricity during peak periods to offset costly demand charges and/or reduce load during a demand response event. Joule.System also makes it easier to integrate both large- and small-scale renewable energy generation, potentially in a microgrid or as a virtual power plant, and provides a dependable source of back-up power during a grid outage, complete with "dark start" and support for critical loads.
Joule.System includes a family of turn-key, modular and scalable energy storage and generation systems that integrate a range of advanced battery technologies with significant innovations in power conversion, battery management and operational software. By combining state-of-the-art power conversion, energy storage and intelligent control in a single package, Joule.System is able to charge, retain and generate energy to optimize usage and maximize cost savings under a variety of use cases and utility rate structures.
Applications
Optimized Economic Benefits on Both Sides of the Meter at the Edge of the Utility Grid … and Beyond!
Energy storage adds enormous value to the electric grid, which must constantly match generation with demand. The economic value of energy storage increases the closer it is to the load, where users can also benefit from greater control and cost savings. But for such distributed energy storage to deliver fully on its potential, it must be intelligent, easily integrated and capable of aggregating distributed assets and optimizing them in real-time.
DE has developed a “best-in-class” Distributed Energy Network Optimization System (“DEN.OS”) that maximizes the economic returns of behind the meter (“BTM”) storage systems alone, or in combination with distributed generation (“DG”). The DEN.OS platform was architected to facilitate the design, integration and operation of energy assets/services, to deliver the highest financial returns across the broadest range of storage applications, utility rate structures and economic use cases today and in the future.
The DEN.OS™ is designed to maximize the value of distributed energy storage by providing the cloud-based intelligence and big data analytics to optimize in real-time how and when to utilize energy storage resources in concert with other energy assets. The DEN.OS system creates off-peak demand by recharging the batteries when the rates for electricity are the lowest or there is excess supply, and generates electricity when needed to reduce demand or stabilize the grid.
In effect, the DEN.OS makes demand or load "dispatchable" by enabling it to be increased or decreased in an optimal way to accommodate changing "user" needs, rate structures and grid conditions. And by making load more dispatchable, DEN.OS makes it easier to integrate more solar and other DG onsite and on the grid.
