The rooftop solar boom started in California during the energy crisis of 2001. Akeena Solar was founded that year in Silicon Valley, which grew to be the largest residential installer in the last decade with over 10,000 solar customers in California, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Colorado and Hawaii. Akeena partnered with the Westinghouse Electric Company to create Westinghouse Solar in 2010, and then merged with an overseas energy company in 2012. Cinnamon Solar was founded in 2012 to continue the vision at Akeena Solar: developing and installing residential solar power systems optimized to produce the most electricity for the lowest price. In addition to installing systems, Cinnamon Solar also recommends and assists customers with appropriate Energy Efficiency (EE) measures to help reduce electric consumption even more. To keep costs down, Cinnamon Solar only works in Santa Clara County and nearby cities, including San Jose, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Campbell, Cupertino, Mountain View, Monte Sereno, Almaden Valley, Los Altos, Sunnyvale, Los Altos Hills, Hillsborough, Woodside, Portola Valley, Morgan Hill, Milpitas, Fremont, Gilroy, Santa Cruz, and Scotts Valley. We install standardized crystalline silicon panels using micro inverters. Barry Cinnamon is a long-time advocate of solar power and is a widely recognized solar power expert. Mr. Cinnamon started his career in solar energy in the late 1970’s at MIT researching new flat plate and concentrating collector designs. His pioneering work on reducing costs of rooftop solar power systems led to over 30 issued and applied for patents, including a number of products that transformed the solar industry, including Andalay, the first solar panel with integrated racking, grounding and wiring, the first UL listed AC solar panel with a microinverter, and the first fully “plug and play” AC solar panel. He is a NABCEP Emeritus Solar Installer, a licensed California C-46 Solar Contractor, former President of the California Solar Energy Industries Association, current Vice Chair and Board Alternate of the Solar Energy Industries Association PV Division, and a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum. On any given day he’ll either be on a roof working with his installation crews, doing R&D on new solar products in the lab, or working on improving national residential solar policies like net metering and better homeowner financing programs.Faced with the complexity of residential rooftop installations in 2001, the key staff at Cinnamon Solar developed the first solar panels with integrated racking, wiring and grounding. This solar panel, called Andalay, was released in 2007 and received widespread acclaim. The team followed this up with the first UL-listed AC panel in 2009, and the first “plug and play” AC panel in 2012. Cinnamon Solar is continuing to develop new solar panel technology, as well as automated services for residential installers — all with a goal of reducing total installed costs for homeowners.
Although the current generation of solar panels and microinverters are guaranteed for 25 years, some of the older inverters—which were state-of-the-art in their day—had a 5-10 year lifespan. Cinnamon Solar provides repair and maintenance services for all popular rooftop solar equipment, including SMA, Xantrex and Fronius inverters, as well as equipment installed by other solar companies. If your system or components are under warranty, we will work with the manufacturer to get your equipment repaired for free. If the components are out of warranty, we will quote you a fair price to get your system repaired and running quickly.Cinnamon Solar is Silicon Valley's premier solar installer, with over 10,000 customers since 2001. We help homeowners understand the true costs of solar leasing, and help them buy the most cost-effective and reliable system for their home.
