Since AMS Inc., was founded in 1942, our products have been used by individuals, businesses, non-profits, governments and universities throughout the world for a wide variety of sampling purposes. AMS equipment is primarily used for environmental and geotechnical sampling and monitoring, as well as for remediation activities. They also provide simple solutions for a variety of other fields, including: agriculture, construction, golf & turf, mining, pest control, etc.
AMS, Inc., manufactures hand augers, soil probes, core samplers, sludge and sediment samplers, gas vapor probes, and since 1994, AMS PowerProbes direct-push drill rigs. AMS PowerProbes can be mounted on pick-up trucks, tracks, or trailers, and have gained widespread acceptance due to their versatility, relatively low cost, and ease of mobility. They are designed to be used for: soil, soil gas, and groundwater sampling and testing; remediation investigations; geophysical and geotechnical tests; installing monitoring wells; and most models can be fitted with hollowstem augering capability.
The BEGINNING
Art Vollweiler opened the doors of Arts Machine Shop over 70 years ago and following a simple philosophy, created the cornerstone from which growth and development has exploded. Art's philosophy is that "Everything is a Work of Art." He considered every AMS product a direct reflection on him, so every design was developed with purpose and longevity in mind.
The AMS product line grew as Art's reputation for innovation grew. When the Soil Conservation Service of the United States government asked Art to develop a tool for sampling soil, Art took the task seriously. The auger design from that project is still in use today. Over the next few years, a complete line of hand sampling equipment, including augers, hammer driven samplers, specialty shovels and accessory items, were developed.
The VISION
With the cornerstone firmly planted, the company was ready for growth. In 1980, Art's son, Rick joined the company. Recognizing that the future was in the global market, Rick expanded the vision from a successful local business, to a major, global competitor. With an aggressive marketing plan and an expanded product line the company grew to more than 20 times its original size.
Now recognized as AMS, Inc., and manufacturing a variety of soil sampling equipment, including, hand sampling tools, a dual tube sampling system, portable groundwater monitoring system, and the powerful, world renowned PowerProbe™ direct push drill rigs. AMS is still driven by the simple philosophy that each product is a “Work of Art." Each piece of AMS equipment is custom built and exhaustively tested by our highly qualified employees, to meet the customer's exact needs and specifications. Our diligent efforts to provide a quality product combined with a strong commitment to technological improvements of the AMS product line and even greater commitment to customer service, has solidified AMS, Inc. as a major manufacturer in the global environmental industry.
The LEGACY
AMS, Inc., has since taken steps to expand into other areas, including, health, mining, agricultural, construction, and many other industries. AMS has developed innovative ways to assist golf courses, railroads, real estate companies, and researchers at universities throughout the world. With each new step, we are reminded of the need to stay true to our founding philosophy. Today we are finding better ways to do our jobs with less impacts on our environment. We are developing partnerships that enhance our technologies. And, the addition of Art's grandson, Marc, to the management team in 2002, has given AMS the ability to respond quickly to the changing industry demands. And as President of AMS, Marc has pushed technological advancement of AMS existing products further than ever before while encouraging the further expansion of the AMS product lines and uses.

PowerCore Systems
The PowerCore Asphalt & Concrete Coring System is a convenient, cost efficient method for retrieving a soil sample covered by concrete pavement. Rather than having to remove large sections of the concrete or asphalt, simply bore through a small area of the pavement and collect multiple clean core samples. The PowerCore Asphalt & Concrete Coring System mounts to any any compact, mid or full-sized pickup truck or trailer. A unique and versatile mounted slider system allows for easy in-and-out as well as side-to-side motion. This allows the user to take multiple samples without having to reposition their rig. Two rear-mounted outrigger jacks increase stability. Front-mounted outrigger jacks can be added for additional stability. They also make loading, unloading, and storage of the PowerCore system quick and simple.
