Since May, 2015
When a company captures 90 percent of a market, the spirit of innovation that propelled it forward can begin to falter. Priorities shift. Complacency sets in. At Energy Recovery, we’re proof that the opposite can also be true. After revolutionizing the water desalination industry, we’re now expanding into new markets such as oil and gas processing and innovating like never before.
Restless Creativity
A spirit of innovation is central to who we are as a company. Since our founding in 1992, we’ve dedicated ourselves to constant, even relentless innovation. Rather than shrink from challenges, we seek them out. We identify established industrial processes and commit ourselves to finding new ways to improve their efficiency and lessen their environmental impact.
As a team, we feel emboldened to create technologies that will change the world for the better.
Simple, Durable
Perhaps the clearest measure of Energy Recovery’s ongoing commitment to innovation is the explosive growth in the number of patents applications we’ve filed recently. While we were able to capture a majority market share in desalination with one or two patent applications per year, we filed over 45 patents applications alone in 2014 for the technology we are launching in oil and gas and chemicals, which includes our VorTeq, IsoBoost and IsoGen systems.
The first disruptive Energy Recovery technology was the PX Pressure Exchanger, and it set a precedent for everything to follow. The PX works by recycling energy that would otherwise be lost in the desalination process. Simple yet durable, it changed the economics of converting salt water to fresh water, and today saves desalination plants worldwide $1.4 billion annually on their energy expenses.
New Markets
Oil and gas processing, like desalination, requires high pressure fluid flows. Not surprisingly, the principles behind the success of our PX Pressure Exchanger can be applied to oil and gas. As with desalination, our solutions recover lost energy, simplify complex processes, and increase runtime.
Our mission now is to use Energy Recovery innovations to transform these new markets. Gas processing and ammonia plants, oil pipelines, and hydraulic fracturing operations all stand to benefit from products like the VorTeq, IsoBoost, and IsoGen systems.
Global Presence
With research, development, and manufacturing facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area, Energy Recovery maintains a global presence. We operate direct sales offices and technical support centers in key industrial hubs like Dubai, Shanghai, and Florida, and our service representatives are on the ground in Algeria, Australia, China, India, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, and Latin America.
We’re a diverse team, and our experience in energy recovery is unparalleled, but we share one unifying characteristic—a desire to develop smart, elegantly simple solutions to complex problems.
