About Company

We were founded in 1992 under the Allied Fabricators name. We commenced operations as a custom fabrication company, manufacturing equipment from customer drawings and specifications. Over the years, our primary focus has become designing, fabricating, and installing water control systems for hydroelectric power generation. This accounts for more than 98% of our annual sales.

Our focus is to provide turnkey projects from conception through commissioning for water control systems. We specialize in custom-designed intake gates, radial gates, sluice gates, tailrace gates, embedded parts, hoisting equipment and towers, cranes, and trash racks. We have the experience, knowledge, and physical capabilities to design, build, and install virtually any such product necessary to meet our customers’ requirements.

We strongly believe that customer satisfaction is the key to success. We uphold this belief through pride in our workmanship and strong alliances with vendors sharing this same philosophy. Our relentless attention to our customers' expectations for quality, safety, and on-time delivery has made us their supplier of choice.

With our team of engineering professionals, state-of-the-art facility, in-house installation expertise, and 20-year industry experience, we have completed hundreds of successful projects across Canada. Our clients range from private power generation firms to provincial utilities, including Ontario Power Generation, the owner of the most generating stations in Canada.

OUR CLEAN ENERGY COMMITMENT

AFI Hydro is committed to hydroelectricity because it is clean energy and more cost-effective and efficient than all other renewable energy sources, including solar and wind. According to the Worldwatch Institute, the average cost of hydroelectricity from plants larger than 10 megawatts is only 3 to 5 cents per kilowatt-hour.

In Canada, BC Hydro recorded costs for heritage hydro plants at only 1.098 cents per kWh. Meanwhile, the U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates wind power to cost around 14 to 19 cents per kWh and solar to cost between 25 to 40 cents per kWh. Also, BC Hydro estimates the costs of other renewable sources to be much higher than hydroelectricity.
