About Livos

Livos Energy is a specialist renewable energy company working with landowners to develop successful wind and ground mounted solar PV projects.

Livos Energy is a leading renewable energy project developer specialising in onshore wind energy and ground mounted solar PV. We work with landowners to yield a secure and regular income from renewable projects. We deliver the resource and you relinquish the risk.
Founded in 2011 by former farmer James Madigan, Livos was launched to deliver commercial scale renewable energy projects which make a positive contribution to our environment. His background as a farmer means James has a very real understanding of the needs and priorities of landowners and this puts him in the perfect place to work effectively with his peers.
The company is built on the premise that landowners need accessible advice and realistic expectations. Over the last 2½ years we have built a professional management team which covers: surveying, planning and development, management, community liaison, and the all-important area of project management. The combination of this expertise ensures Livos’ partners benefit from the very best advice and support at all times.
At Livos we appreciate that whilst landowners and farmers may be keen to yield income from redundant or unused land, they may not have the resource, knowledge or time to actually undertake the project. As specialists in the field, we are able to take the pain away and work with our partners to offer regular income without any financial commitment or risk.
We are also committed to engaging with communities in the localities we seek to develop projects. We are keen to explore with host communities how they might invest alongside us, in both the development phase and the operational life of our projects.
Our speciality and experience is in bespoke projects which, as well as contributing to the UK’s energy bank, also provide a way for landowners to diversify their income and ensure that smaller farms remain viable.

Since our incorporation, Livos Energy has built up a portfolio of projects with a capacity of over 30MW ranging from the feasibility through to consented stage.

Testimonials:

“We have to do the best job with the resources we have. I have land and a lot of wind. Anglesey was known as Mam Cymru (‘Mother of Wales’) up to the last century because its fertile fields and windmills supplied the breadbasket of Wales. People today want electricity and we can supply it. The team at Livos Energy have made the process simple and supported us through the entire project.”

Geraint Roberts, Farmer, Anglesey

“Livos Energy have been excellent to deal with from start to finish. They have worked with the local community council throughout the process and I’m delighted to have planning permission. The turbine will make a big difference to the farm and help the local community as well.”

Barry Davies, Farmer, Wales

Solar PV

Solar PV technology was originally developed for off grid uses such as watches, calculators and space applications. Recently the price of generating power from UV panels has plummeted. It is expected to reach “grid-parity” by the end of the decade. This means that it should cost the same to generate one’s own solar power as it does to buy it from an electricity supply company.

Solar panels can be installed on roofs or fixed to the ground (“ground-mounted”). They are silent in operation, have no moving parts and maintenance requirements are virtually zero. Since the introduction of the “Feed-In Tariff” both types of projects are becoming increasingly common in our towns and countryside. According to planning guidance from the National Solar Centre, the ideal sites are flat, well screened by hedges, tree lines, etc. and should not cause undue impact to nearby domestic properties or roads. Ideally this would be grade 3b, 4 or 5 land.

Installed capacity is growing rapidly, and the central forecast in DECC’s solar strategy envisages that the UK is likely to reach 10GW by 2020.

A tracking survey conducted quarterly for DECC by an independent research organisation has shown consistently high levels of public support for the use of renewable energy. Interviews conducted with 2,103 UK adults in September 2013 showed 82% of respondents support the use of solar energy to generate the UK’s electricity. Only 4% are opposed.

Wind Energy
Row of Four Green Energy Wind Turbines In a FieldWind turbine technology is developing at a pace. Europe is at the hub of this high-technology industry. Turbines are becoming more powerful and effective, with the latest models having longer blades, allowing them to capture more wind and therefore producing more electricity.
Wind energy is well-placed to help meet the climate change challenge. It is proven technology and as of November 2013, there were over 4,100 turbines across the UK with an installed capacity of over 6,700MW – enough to power over 3.5m homes and save 6.7m tonnes of COâ‚‚ every year. (http://www.renewableuk.com. The data on homes equivalent is based on an estimated annual household energy consumption of 4.226MWh (DECC 2012); COâ‚‚ levels based on average grid emission factor of 449g/kWh
We use a range of turbines, typical sizes from 50kW to 3MW, from leading European manufacturers, and select the most appropriate one to maximise the potential of your site. Factors that we consider in turbine selection include: energy yield, quietness in operation, site access, and grid requirements.
A typical single 2.5MW turbine will generate enough electricity to meet the demands of some 1,300 homes and offset the release of over 74,000 tonnes of COâ‚‚ over its 30 year lifespan.
A tracking survey conducted quarterly for DECC by an independent research organisation has shown consistently high levels of public support for the use of renewable energy. Interviews conducted with 2,103 UK adults in September 2013 showed 66% of respondents support the use of onshore wind to generate the UK’s electricity. Only 12% are opposed.
