Our technology is based on the Seebeck Effect (sometimes referred to as the Thermoelectric Effect). This effect is the conversion of thermal differences to electrical voltage. The conversion in the opposite direction (voltage to temperature difference) is called Peltier Effect.
Detailed information about the Thermoelectric Effect is available in this excellent Wikipedia article: Thermoelectric Effect
greenTEG’s Technology
Thermocouples are the building blocks of thermoelectric elements. A thermocouple consists of two dissimilar conductors (called thermopiles) that are in contact with each other. Within a thermoelectric element, many such thermocouples are connected in series to increase the voltage output. The image on the right displays a schematic drawing of thermocouples connected in series.
