New Fortress Energy Foresees Notable Jump in Brazil’s LNG Demand
SEATTLE (Oil Monster): According to New Fortress Energy (NFE), the demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Brazil is expected to rise over the next several years. According to a statement from the corporation, the industrial and thermoelectric industries would be the primary drivers of the expected demand increase.
Operations are anticipated to start over the next two years on the company's projects, which total about 2.2 gigawatts (GW) of capacity throughout the nation.

The company's LNG ports are situated in Sao Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina state, and Barcarena, Para state. The Alunorte alumina refinery owned by Norsk Hydro is served by the terminal in Para State. In 2025, it will begin providing gas to NFE's Novo Tempo Barcarena thermal plant, which is now under development. Local residential and commercial clients are served by the Santa Catarina state terminal. Furthermore, NFE and Transportadora Bolívia Brasil (TBG) have signed a contract for the supply of gas to regional thermal power plants.
Recently, the Brazilian regulatory body gave NFE subsidiary permission to import up to 1.7 million cubic meters of LNG annually from other nations in order to supply various parts of the nation.Several such requests for authorization are in progress with authorities, said the communication by the company’s press office.
It must be noted that the amount of natural gas imported by Brazil in 2024 has already exceeded that of the year before.
