In response, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly said that in addition to producing jobs, the multibillion dollar investment is anticipated to boost the local economy. It is anticipated that the construction phase alone will provide about 500 employment. It will also provide 20–40 long-term positions. The two facilities will generate more than $1 billion in property tax income over the course of their expected 40-year operational life when the 10-year tax exemption period is over.
Strict emission regulations will be followed during the construction of the facilities, guaranteeing that the clean energy landscape is unharmed.
David Campbell, chairman, president and CEO of Evergy noted that the modern natural gas plants will meet the electricity needs for the region’s growing economy. It complements the company’s planned investment in wind and solar resources, he added.
