This summer, it finished all of the commissioning tests that the Ministry required, and it was then made operationally ready.

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Greece-based Gastrade reported that the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal has begun commercial operations. It is anticipated that the project will significantly improve Greece's energy security and strengthen its position on the continent's current energy map.

In January 2022, Gastrade made a final investment decision (FID) for the project's execution. It then made sure that construction projects, both onshore and offshore, moved forward quickly. In February of last year, the LNG FSRU's construction got underway. By mid-December 2023, the FRSU had reached the seas of the Thracian Sea. This summer, it finished all of the commissioning tests that the Ministry required, and it was then made operationally ready.

Apart from FRSU, the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal comprises of a sub-sea and onshore natural gas pipeline which connects the FSRU to the National Natural Gas Transmission System (NNGTS). The NNGTS will deliver natural gas to as many as nine countries- Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary, and Slovakia.

The terminal is powered by state-of-the-art technology and has a maximum regasification capacity of 5.5 billion cubic metres per year.
