EIA: U.S. Net Natural Gas Exports Held Flat in H1 2024

During the first half of 2024, net U.S. pipeline imports from Canada were 5.4 Bcf/d on average.

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) most recent Natural Gas Monthly Report, net natural gas exports from the United States in the first half of 2024 averaged about 12.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). When compared to the same period last year, this is essentially flat.

In H1 2023, net exports were 12.5 Bcf/d on average. It should be mentioned that since 2016, the United States has been a net exporter of LNG.

The study states that during the first half of 2024, U.S. net pipeline exports to Mexico averaged 6.3 Bcf/d, a considerable increase of 7% over the same time the previous year. It said that the capacity of cross-border pipelines between the United States and Mexico will significantly increase as a result of the recent regulatory approvals for two major natural gas pipeline projects.

During the first half of 2024, net U.S. pipeline imports from Canada were 5.4 Bcf/d on average. By comparison, this is a noteworthy 11% growth from the same period in 2023. A notable increase in imports was observed for the Midcontinent region.

There are seven LNG export terminals in the United States that are currently operational, and five more are in the construction stage. It is anticipated that two new LNG export facilities, Plaquemines LNG and Corpus Christi LNG Stage 3, would start exporting LNG by the end of the current year.
