Petrobras Signed Natural Gas Supply Agreement with CSN

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Petrobras announced that it has signed a contract with CSN towards supply of natural gas to CSN’s steel plant in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. The new partnership is part of the long term strategy to explore opportunities in alignment with the decarbonization and energy transition goals of both the companies. The partnership deal marks a pivotal moment for both Petrobras and CSN.

Petrobras and CSN intend to use this contract to optimize natural gas consumption in a number of processes, all in keeping with their goals for the energy transition. The agreement covers the transfer of Volta Redonda (RJ)'s Presidente Vargas Power Plant (UPV) to the free natural gas market.

CSN's Energy Director, Rogerio Pizeta, referred to the deal as a very significant step. He noted that CSN has now become the leading industrial consumer of natural gas in the country’s free market. The active engagement in the natural gas segment will help CSN to reduce costs and add value to the company. In addition, it will reinforces CSN’s commitment to ensuring efficient operations in the evolving market.
