Equinor’s Mongstad Oil Refinery Operations Stalled After Fire
SEATTLE (Oil Monster): A fire incident was reported at Equinor’s Mongstad oil refinery near Bergen. Reports of smoke from an electrical kiosk at the facility was reported on 15 February at 13:00 CET. The fire was extinguished. However, the incident led to stoppage of production activities.
According to the company, fire erupted within an electrical facility on the premises. There were approximately 950 people at the facility when the incident occurred. The company responded quickly by evacuating majority of its workforce as a precautionary measure. The operations at the refinery were ceased so as to ensure the safety and well-being of its employees and to mitigate possibilities of further escalation of the incident.
The company ensured that all non-essential staff were removed from the refinery site. Also, authorities reassured nearby residents that they need not immediately evacuate from their homes.
Equinor observed that the stoppage of refinery activities will have far-reaching implications. The company has mobilized its resources and expertise to effectively manage the crisis situation. It assured that it will strive to minimize the impact on surrounding communities and the environment.
