It must be noted that Coral-Sul has been facing excessive delays in commissioning.

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Eni- a global leader in energy sector, announced that it has commenced liquefied natural gas (LNG) production at its Coral-Sul floating terminal offshore Mozambique. The loading of the first cargo is scheduled to take place later, upon reaching previously announced milestones.

The Coral-Sul terminal is one of the three planned LNG projects in Mozanbique, whose combined production capacity, upon completion, is estimated at around 30 million metric tons per year (mmty). The terminal alone has a capacity of 3.4 mmty.

It must be noted that Coral-Sul has been facing excessive delays in commissioning. The plant was supposed to load its initial cargo in early-September this year. The loadings were delayed again four times during the previous month. There is no clear indication on when the vessel will successfully load its first cargo. Eni has already entered into a long-term agreement with BP, by which BP will purchase all of Coral-Sul’s output. As per reports, BP’s LNG carrier British Sponsor is floating nearby.

Meantime, Eni stated that it is awaiting approval from the Mozambique government on a second floating LNG vessel for Coral-Sul.

Guido Brusco, Eni’s chief operating officer of natural resources confirmed that it has produced the first LNG in Coral and that it is completing the ramp-up to achieve the first cargo.
